Veterans Newsletter - March, 2021

March, 2021 Veterans Newsletter

We have a week of good weather no snow that is awesome.

Our volunteer drivers have not made a trip to the VA medical Centers as we are still under the covid-19 Pandemic. I have had 37 phone calls into my office and I had 10 visitors to my office to fill out claims.

Please note I will be at the American Legion Post 72 on the 4th of March from 1:00 pm till 4:30 PM to discuss you claims etc.

Second Female Earns Green Beret:

The First woman in 40 years to earn the title of Green Beret graduated from the Army’s Special Forces Qualification Course in July 2020.  As official policy, the Army does not “release the names of service members in training…due to unique missions assigned upon graduation.”  The Army Times reported that the woman was an enlisted National Guard soldier who was slated to become an 18C, or Special Forces engineer sergeant.  The first woman to complete the course, then-Army Capt. Kathleen Wilder, did so in 1980. At that time, the Army banned women from serving in combat arms.  That ban was lifted in 2016, Wilder would go on to serve 28 years in the Army , retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

New Conditions Added to Agent Orange List:

Three Medical conditions were added to the VA’s Agent Orange presumptive conditions list after approval of the Authorization Act (NDAA)of 2021 on New Year’s Day.

The law (P.L. 116-92) now requires VA to add bladder Cancer, Hypothyroidism and Parkinsonism to the list of conditions caused by Agent Orange exposure to troops in the Vietnam War.
