September Veteran Affairs Newsletter

Veterans Newsletter - September, 2014

Well another month has slipped by and we just keep plugging away.  We had 30 office veteran visits and 58 phone calls to the office  I also was part of a group of local men that visited with the Veterans at Williamsburg Healthcare. I also attended the American Legion meeting on August 7th and VFW business meeting on August 14th.

Patriot Day is a day of rememberance for those that lost their lives on 9/11/2001 and it will be observed on September 11, 2014.  Also, the Crawfordsville American Legion Riders are sponsoring a Freedom Ride on September 13th.  Signup will start at 11 am at the post and it is open to the public.

POW/MIA day will be observed in Indianapolis at teh War Memorial on September 19th with ceremonies starting at 12 noon.  Anyone may attend.  I would like to say a hello to Robert L. Pugh, Albert Delano, Joe Hinesley and Carl Dowden our local POW's from WW2.  Thank you for your sacrificse.  The VFW will sponsor a POW/MIA observance on Friday, September 19th at 6 pm.  VFW members only.  As a side note, Crane Naval Warefare Center, Indiana also has a POW/MIA observance but it is on September 11th and you must sign up and be cleared to enter the base before going.

Help us send WW2 & Korean War Veterans to DC by supporting the 1st Annual Honor Ride on September 20th starting at 10 am for registration and first bike out around 11 am.  Meet at 225 Progress Drive, Lafayette just off of I-65 and Indiana 26 next to Wal-Mart.  This is the new location of Boiler/Harley-Davidson.

We have 13 veterans from Montgomery County going on our September 29th Honor Flight to DC.  On that evening (09/29) we will arrive home around 8 pm and would love to have a crowd meed us at the Purdue Airport. Show your support and bring a group with you to welcome us back.  The next flight will be on October 27th.

As a final note, I would like us to remember our Gold Star Mothers on their day which is Sunday, September 28th, so if you know one please say something to them as their son or daughter has given the ultimate sacrifice.

Dates to remember in October:  Thursday, October 16th the Blue Star Mothers Bean Supper from 5 pm to 8 pm at the American Legion and on Thursday, October 23rd will be our annual Veterans Expo at the Legion from 8 am to 2 pm.

Be safe.
