Conceptual Design - Nucor Road Overpass Project

The County has hired Loughmiller Group to design an overpass on Nucor Road over US 136. The design is proceeding and the purchase of right of way is completed. The design will be reviewed by another engineering firm, as required by the State.

Documents have been submitted to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. There will be a public hearing to review the project details. The public hearing is scheduled for August 13, 2025 at 6 pm at the County Government Center, 1580 Constitution Row in Crawfordsville. The estimated cost of the project including design, right of way, construction and inspection is $25,459,373.

The State has awarded a grant in the amount of $16,036,200 to pay for 80% of the construction and inspection costs. The grant is from Federal Highway Administration construction funds. The County will be responsible for the remaining 20%.

The funding has been awarded for the State's fiscal year of 2027 which starts on July 1, 2026. This means that the project may have the bid awarded in July of 2026 with construction to begin in 2027. Construction would continue in to 2028 and possibly 2029. 

Environmental documents have been submitted to the State as part of the review for the project.
