OCTOBER VETERANS INFORMATION

October Veterans Information

It seems that the months are flying by and the snow will soon be flying as well. We were busy in September with 34 people in my office and we also flew 79 veterans to Washington DC to see their memorials on the 9th of Sept. The weather was great and we had a great welcome home group of about 200 people to greet our veterans. We will have three flights next year; they will be May 5th, September 29th and either Oct 27th or Nov 3rd 2014. We are still looking for WW2 and Korean War Veterans to go on these flights. Send them to me if you find one that wants to go on the trip. We are starting to fund raise for next year so if you want to help us contact me.

The Red Cross schedules the vans that take veterans to their appointments at the VA. They are currently looking for drivers. This is a volunteer position and the vans run Monday -Thursday to Indy and Danville IL. You could drive as little as one day a month or more. Contact Sue at the Red Cross 362-3103 if you would like to help.

I now need to talk with the Vietnam vets out there. If you were boots on the ground or Brown or Blue water Navy that were in waters off of Vietnam between 1/9/1962 -5/7/1975 and we can prove it you need to speak with me. You do not need to meet any financial need test to be seen at the VA. What that means is that it does not matter how much you make or receive in retirement you can be covered by the VA. This also applies to former POW's, Purple Heart Recipients, recently discharged combat veterans, VA service connected pensions, VA pensions. It also applies to Gulf War between 8/ 2/ 1990 and 11 /11/ 1998 and those that spent at least 30 days at Camp Lejeune North Carolina between 1/1/1957 thru 12/31/1987.

The veterans that are currently enrolled in the VA Medical system do not have to purchase other health care. The Affordable Care Act does not change anything for you as you are covered with your VA care.  One final note the Veteran expo will be Oct 17th Thursday from 9am till 2pm at the American Legion Bryan Cox Post 72 at 101 Walter Remley Dr. in Crawfordsville. I will be at the expo and I do have the new Federal Benefits Book 2013 edition.
