Description of Surveyor Duties
Duties of the Surveyor:
The citizens of the County elect the County Surveyor for a four-year term with no term limits. (Article 6, Section 2 of the Constitution of the State of Indiana).

The Surveyor:

Is the technical authority on the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of all regulated drains or proposed regulated drains in the County. IC 29-9-27-29

Maintains a legal surveyor record book IC 36-2-12-10

Manages the perpetuation of section corner IC 36-2-12-11

Replaces worn maps and plats IC 36-2-12-11

Assist landowners who wish to have a parcel of land declard a filter strip IC 2-1.1-6.7-4

Most County surveyors in Indiana are not registered land surveyors because the position does not require the technical skills of a land surveyor.
